Things Escalated Quickly

Look at that face! Who wouldn’t fall in love with that face? Like, look at that!

He was so tiny.

Those sad eyes (that’s why he mostly gets away with a lot of things).

He looked so meek.

So demure.

So fragile.

Till we took him home.

It was like a bloody different cat.

He was chaos in the flesh. It was as if he unleashed his alter ego. I was questioning myself — what happened to my meek kitten? How did he turn from Eeyore into the Tasmanian devil?

Again, I went the not-so-traditional way of introducing cats.

Disclaimer: please, please do not do what I did.

P.S. Just to explain — I did it this way because I know how my cats are. Their personalities and behaviours.

Going back to Mico.

Yeah… I mean, we got what we wanted, right? For Yoda to have a playmate that could match his energy — and here he is. His play is explosive, wild, with no mercy. To be fair, Yoda also has no mercy when he plays with his toys.

Anyway, he was adorable. He still is. He was so tiny — too cute for his own good.

Mico is half Bengal, half Scottish Fold. Personality-wise though, his Bengal side is far more apparent. He is very vocal. Funny. Territorial. But he is also the glorified baby of the trio.

At first, Mico tried to get close to Yoda and Theo. Yoda responded with hissing and complaints, and Theo was more like, “Really?” He hissed a bit, ran off, and Mico would just look sad.

Mico slept with us at night — either beside me, in the bed provided, or on top of my husband’s head.

It only took four days for Mico to win Yoda over. One of the nicest moments was seeing them play together in the tunnel — chasing each other, nonstop play. I guess Yoda was happy.

Theo was happy too — not because he had a playmate, but because he could finally be left alone… and he had a cuddle buddy.

Mico’s personality

So, as you can probably tell from all that, here’s more of him:

• Baby
• Gets what he wants by screaming
• Cheeky — pretends to clean his brothers, then bites them
• Likes to be carried to his meals (most of the time)
• Hates other cats — tiniest, but very territorial
• Sweet Lets you do anything to him
• His way to relax is watching Cat TV (recent development — Yoda likes it too, depending on the mood)
• Rough player Likes to tear boxes (poor Yoda — his boxes are always shredded)
• Eats fast
• Answers back
• Likes being patted at the base of his tail
• Not the cleverest — can’t quite put 2 and 2 together, but that’s okay. His face makes up for it

There’s more to him. But overall, he’s loved by everyone.

Mico completed this family. The house is livelier than ever. What surprised me most is that despite their very different personalities, they gel so well.

Theo always goes to Mico if Mico screams insistently.

If Yoda wants rough play, Mico is always game.

If Mico wants to cuddle, Theo is there.

So what does it benefit us — mere humans in their world?

We have three wonderful fur babies. They don’t leave my side. My silent companions. My unregistered emotional support. They calm me when needed… though they do raise my heart rate at times.

Mico is like a toddler.

Yoda is a teenager.

Theo is the reliable eldest.

Me and my husband always have something to look forward to when we come home. Yoda greets us sometimes. Mico is usually in a ridiculous sleeping position. Theo just casually marches in.

It’s a wonderful gift to have them as part of our family. Problems melt away when I see their tiny faces. It’s okay if they’re not lap cats — they all have their own ways of showing love, and that’s more than enough.
